King Bestows Honours on Individuals,
Institutions Excelling in their Field

His Majesty King Abdullah II presented awards to the winners of
the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in the Public, Private and Business
Associations sectors, on Monday 4/5/2009.
HRH Prince Feisal Bin Al-Hussein, Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the King Abdullah II Centre for Excellence (KACE), and other public
and private officials attended the ceremony.
H. E. Dr. Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Chairman of KACE's Board of
Trustees, said the Award introduced the concept of excellence in institutions
competing for it, and this motivates the public and the private sectors to
improve their performance and the quality of their services.
He added that an assessment report will be sent to all
participating ministries and institutions in this cycle, highlighting their
strengths and areas for improvement. The reports are believed to help these
institutions draw up future annual work plans.
KACE management will carry out field visits to participating
institutions to train them on how to use the assessment report in developing
their action plans, he said.
"King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government
Performance and Transparency"
Sixty four (64) ministries and public institutions competed for
the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and
Transparency, with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation ranked
at top of honors in the “Ministries Participating more than Once”, while The
Ministry of Education came second.
In the “Ministries Participating for the First Time”, the
Ministry of Finance won the Award out of six ministries, and the Ministry of
Energy and Mineral Resources will receive a certificate of Recognition of
Excellence.
In the category of "Public Institutions Participating More Than
Once" where forty one (41) institutions took part, the Development and
Employment Fund was ranked first, while second place was shared by the Jordan
Securities Commission and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA).
The Greater Amman Municipality, the Central Bank of Jordan, the
Free Zones Corporation and the Traffic Department will also receive certificates
of Recognition of Excellence.
In the category of "Public Institutions Participating for the
First Time" six (6) institutions were competing, and the Investment Unit at the
Social Security Corporation, and the King Hussein Medical Center –Royal Medical
Services will receive certificates of Recognition of Excellence.
The “Best Accomplishment” Awad given to institutions that showed
a qualitative leap in their performance was granted to the Jordan News Agency
"Petra", the Jordan Food and Drug Administration and the Civil Defense
Department.
“Distinguished Government Employee”

“Distinguished Leading / Supervising Employee”
In the “Distinguished Leading or Supervising Employee” category,
the winners were Eng. Mohammad Hazaimeh, the Director General of Government
Tenders Directorate, Mr. Hani Jarrah the Chairman of the Cultural Activities
Unit at the Ministry of Education, , Mr. Omar Zu'bi from the Central Bank of
Jordan and Mr. Osama Melhem from the Jordan Institution for Standards and
Metrology.

“Distinguished Administrative / Technical Employee”
In the “Distinguished Administrative / Technical Employee”
category, the winners counted Lieutenant Colonel Eng. Tharwat Masalha from the
Housing and Military Works Institution, Brigadier General Dr. Zahran Bdeir from
the Royal Medical Services – King Hussein Medical Services and Mr. Shaman Abdul
Majid Majali, Director of the Public Relations and Subscribers Department at the
Social Security Corporation.

“Distinguished Supportive Employee”
In the “Distinguished Supportive Employee” category, winners were
Mr. Khalid Khatib from the Greater Amman Municipality, Sergeant Lara Twal from
the Traffic Investigation Department, Fire-Fighter Mahmoud Farhan Al-Bakhit from
the Civil Defense Department and Messenger Mazen Btoush from the Department of
Statistics.
"King Abdullah II Award for Excellence for Private Sector"
Of the forty one (41) private sector companies and institutions
competing for the fifth cycle of the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence for
the private sector, Jordan Ice and Aerated Water Company (Pepsi) came first in
the subcategory of large manufacturing organizations. In the subcategory of
large service organizations, the Specialty Hospital won first place, while
Jordan Light Vehicle Manufacturing won the Award in the subcategory of small- or
medium-size manufacturing organizations.
The Arab Center for Engineering Studies won the Award in the
subcategory small or medium-size service organizations and Consulting Engineers
Centre "Sajdi and Partners" won the Award in the subcategory of winners
participating in more than one cycle of the Award.
"King Abdullah II Award for Excellence for Business Associations"
Meanwhile, in the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence for
Business Associations, four associations achieved the first stage of the Award
which is the Mark of "Best Practice". The Mark achievers were: the Jordan Forum
for Business and Professional Women, the Private Hospitals Associations, the
Jordanian Association of Manufacturers of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Appliances
and the Jordan Exporters and Producers Association for Fruits and Vegetables.
